World Intellectual Property Day (WIPD) was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to celebrate April 26, 1970, the date of entry into force of the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization. To raise public awareness of intellectual property rights and to emphasize the importance of intellectual property rights in fostering innovation and creativity. Each year, the theme focuses on a different aspect to draw the attention of the community to the relevant issues. Since 2001, Member States have celebrated this special day in a variety of ways that are relevant to their daily lives, emphasizing the importance of intellectual property rights through events, seminars, and campaigns. World Intellectual Property Day was established to commemorate the founding of WIPO and promote knowledge of intellectual property rights, encourage innovation, and foster cooperation and exchanges between countries.
 
The theme for World Intellectual Property Day 2025 is "Intellectual Property and Music: Feel the Rhythm of Intellectual Property".According to EPO statistics, among the top 35 European patent application source countries/regions in 2024, EPO member countries account for 43% of the invention patent applications, and non-European countries account for 57%. The United States tops the list, followed by Germany, Japan, China, and South Korea, while Taiwan's 1,499 applications ranked 19th, showing Taiwan's presence in innovation.
